2. Discover how we put the Four Metrics to work for Repco Australia, with amazing results

Repco are big in the automotive parts business with around 480 bricks and mortar stores Australia wide. Although they had ecommerce capability their site traffic was a fourteenth of their major competitor. That’s 50,000 visits per month versus 700,000. Compounding the problem was an unwieldy website and alack of knowledge in-house. Which is where we came in. All of the indicators clearly pointed to a strategy driven by Search Engine Optimisation (or Search Engine Optimization, as our U.S. cousins call it).

The Audience

Their primary market had very low awareness of Repco online. The challenge was to get the brand in front of more people more often. Awareness was clearly the major goal here. Many customers also have specialist knowledge, so Repco required website copy to reflect that. Search Engine Optimisation was the ideal option for this. We wrote segment and product-based copy and then went through the editing process with category managers to ensure that the copy was on brand, on point and clearly written by experts in the field.

Researching the offer

Thankfully many buyers in this market are motivated by brands and Repco carried most of the brands buyers wanted. Unfortunately the brands they carry and the Repco name just weren’t turning up in search results. This was clearly a major issue. The key was getting those brand names front and centre. Certain categories were also preferential based on profitability and market share goals. We generated extensive keyword research, mapping and analysis to create a strategy that could deliver this target volume of traffic growth

The customer journey

The site was clunky and clearly full of barriers in the path to purchase. The user experience was nowhere near as it could be, so plenty of scope for growth. Search Engine Marketing was certainly an option, however given we could influence the redevelopment of the site, Search Engine Optimization on Google was going to be a far less expensive option than the initial $1M annual estimate for SEM – and still reach the target numbers. In worked closely with IT, Web devs and designers at wire frame stage, and through design stage to make sure the Search Engine Optimisation changes were truly functional. In turn this meant page templates had web copy in the right sections of the page to house content, that page speed was appropriate and that coding achieved best practices for search engines.

Using a vast array of Search Engine Optimisation tests, SHOUT researched, authored, optimised and coded into HTML 680+ page templates, housing over 35,000 keywords that were written into the copy. SHOUT also created an internal linking structure to help create fast growth.

The results were amazing with web traffic lifting from around 50,000 visits per month to an impressive 1.6 million per month within 9 months conversions also improved dramatically resulting in revenue growth in the order of $6 million?
